About Me

My Truth

Tech is for everyone

Hi, I’m Miriam. For over thirty years, I firmly believed that technology was not for me. Sure, I used computers, took a couple of basic classes at University and figured out how to use Apple computers (because the room with the computer room with microsoft computers at my uni was always full). But I still thought that I wasn’t techie.

One fateful day, I decided to learn Frontend Development. To be fair, I had no idea what that meant. I knew that developers made websites. That sounded like a good job. Luckily, I stumbled onto a course by Skillcrush, a company who convinced me that tech is for everyone!

They taught me HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (programming languages). I learned about Git and GitHub (ways to share the code with other programmers). Most importantly though, the course was so brilliantly structured, the instructors supportive and the environment filled with people like me: People who used to think that tech was not for us.

Together we learned that heck, yeah, it is! All it takes is the right teacher and they are out there. But before you can even find them, you need to believe that you can learn about tech. And that’s where this blog comes in.

Mission

I am a teacher by training. I am also a Scanner, meaning a person who has to work on several projects at the same time to stay happy. My super-powers are that I learn fast and explain well. I am your bridge into the tech world.

A friend of mine was scammed on the phone. When we unravelled what happened, I realised that she had not seen the red flags because to her technology is a bit of a mystery. I also realized that I used to be her four years ago.

Vision

It didn’t take much for me to learn basic tech skills, which I could use to untangle more complex things, like how websites work. The information is out there but it’s not necessarily easy to find. So I’m sharing my knowledge with you in as simple words as possible.

My vision is to demystify technology for you and give you the confidence to find out more on your own. Even more importantly, I will show you that technology really is for everyone. Yes, you too.
